What Do Bahá’ís Believe?

Bahá’ís believe that one loving, transcendent God created the universe and all that is within it. God is the ancient, eternal, animating Essence that permeates every atom of existence. Humankind, created out of love, is the pinnacle of God's creation.

In each age, God provides spiritual guidance for humanity through the divinely-inspired Teachers who have been the Founders of the world's great religions. Among them are Abraham, Zoroaster, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Mohammad, the Báb, and most recently, Bahá'u'lláh. These Teachers perfectly mirror divine attributes and establish laws that ensure the advancement of responsive individuals and world civilizations.

As Bahá’ís, we believe

  • There is one God.
  • All humanity is one family.
  • There is a fundamental unity underlying religion.
  • There is equality of women and men.
  • Prejudice of all kinds must be eliminated.
  • There is an essential harmony of science and religion.
  • Each individual must independently investigate truth.
  • Universal education is a foundational element leading toward universal peace.
  • Each Baha'i is called upon to spread hope, joy, and a positive vision of humanity's future.
  • The coming of Bahá'u'lláh has opened the age for the establishment of world peace, when, as anticipated in the sacred scriptures of the past, all humanity will achieve its spiritual and social maturity, and live as one united family in a just, global society.
