To Light a Candle

Iran’s government stops Baha’is from teaching and studying at universities. But they do teach and they do study – in secret. Education Is Not A Crime is a global awareness-raising campaign to pressure the Iranian government to change its policies, and to encourage universities around the world to admit Iranian Baha’i students.

Central to this awareness-raising campaign is the film "
To Light a Candle" by Maziar Bahari* that presents compelling interviews, personal stories and dramatic archival footage — often smuggled out of Iran at great personal risk.

The Lake Geneva Baha'i Faith Community can present a screening of this film to your church or civic organization and facilitate a post-viewing discussion upon request. Please use our
Contact Form to get in touch with us.

The latest project is #PaintTheChange – a mix of public murals, grassroots street art, and social media to tell people about this injustice.

*Maziar Bahari is an Iranian-Canadian journalist, film maker and human rights activist. He was a reporter for Newsweek from 1998 to 2011. Bahari was also the subject of Jon Stewart's 2014 movie, "Rosewater."
